A visit is not a punishment!
The museum is housed in one of the old penitentiary institutions built in 1823 by the Society of Benevolence in Veenhuizen for beggars and vagrants. Veenhuizen is a unique village with a remarkable history, more than a hundred national monuments, and five prisons still in use.
In this modern and interactive museum, you'll discover how we deal with crime and punishment in the Netherlands from 1600 to the present day and learn about the unique history of Veenhuizen.
In short, a visit to the Prison Museum isn't a punishment; it's a fun day out for young and old!
